Our story
Mapping Hong Kong's Layered History
HK 3D Map is a passion project dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich heritage of Hong Kong through immersive technology and meticulous historical research.
Our Mission
Hong Kong's history is written in its streets, buildings, and neighbourhoods — layers of colonial architecture, pre-war shophouses, and modern towers that tell a story spanning nearly two centuries.
We believe that history should be experienced, not just read. By combining CesiumJS 3D mapping technology with curated walking routes and archival research, we bring that story to life in a way that anyone can explore.
Every point of interest on our map has been verified against historical records, government archives, and on-the-ground visits. We are committed to accuracy, depth, and accessibility.
What Makes Us Different
Verified Historical Data
Every POI is cross-referenced with the Hong Kong Government's Antiquities and Monuments Office records, academic publications, and primary sources.
Real 3D Terrain
Powered by CesiumJS and the HK Lands Department 3D Tiles API, our map renders actual building geometry and terrain — not a flat illustration.
Walk-First Design
Routes are designed to be walked, not just viewed. Each path connects sites in a logical sequence with realistic distances and timing.
Open to Contribution
We welcome historians, architects, and local enthusiasts to contribute research, corrections, and new route suggestions.
The Team
HK 3D Map is built by a small team of developers, historians, and urban explorers based in Hong Kong. We are united by a love of the city and a belief that its stories deserve to be told with care and precision.
